Step 2: Draw Plunging “V” Shape

Start with the shirt on backwards since the collar will be higher up and there is more material left later once it’s time to cut. Then, use the pencil to mark the spot where you want the plunge to end.

Next, take the shirt off and draw out the rest of the “v” shape using a straight edge (I’ve got my handy oreo box).

Step 3: Cut Front Halter Shape

Take your scissors and cut the “V” shape from the front. Then, starting on one side of the top, cut down and over to about 2 inches below the armpit. This will create the first triangular shape of the halter top. Repeat this to the other side and the front of the top is complete!

Step 4: Cut the Back

Now, fold the front over so it’s out of your way and simply cut straight across the back, removing that top portion of material. The base of your halter top is done!

Step 5: Cut Straps

Using that same portion of material that you just cut from the top of the shirt’s back, cut along the collar. Then, cut that strip in half. These will be the straps for the halter!

Step 6: Attach Straps

Use your scissors to cut a small slit into the top of one of the front triangular flaps. Then, slip the end of one of the strips through the hole and tie a knot. Repeat on the other side and your halter is ready to try on!

All done!

That’s it!! You now have a fun plunging halter top that required zero sewing and just a few minutes of work! Thanks so much for checking out this tutorial and please leave a comment if you try it out! 🙂
