DIY Fringe Halter Top From a T-Shirt (Easy Sewing)

If you haven't noticed yet, I love a good halter top. I also love to transform basic t-shirts, and this project covers both! Here are some simple steps to upcycle a t-shirt into a fringe halter top with some easy sewing. Be sure to connect with me on Instagram for more ideas and fun behind the scenes posts.

Step 1: Cut Base & Straps

Place a tube top or tank top on top of the oversized t-shirt to use as a pattern and cut slightly larger for seam allowance. Then cut two straps for the halter top. Be sure to leave enough material at the bottom for the fringe!

Step 2: Cut Fringe

Take the remaining strip of fabric from the bottom of the t-shirt and flip it to position the hemline at the top. Cut 1/2-inch strips from the bottom up, stopping right before the hem. Then pull and stretch the strips to achieve the fringe look.

Step 3: Sew Top

Sew the base of the top on the sides, then flip it right side out.

Step 4: Attach Fringe & Straps

Pin or clip the top of the fringe strip to the top and sew to attach (I had enough for two layers of fringe). Then attach the straps to create the halter top.

All done!

Can you believe this transformation? We now have a perfectly fun summer top after just a few simple steps. Let me know if you try this project!
