Halloween is the perfect time to channel iconic TV characters, and this year I’m throwing it back to one of the classiest looks of the 90s: Francesca aka Fancy from The Jamie Foxx Show! Played by Garcelle Beauvais, Fancy’s effortless 90s-fine style was all about chic, timeless pieces that still resonate today. Here’s how I recreated her uniform from the King's Towers hotel on a budget using thrifted finds—perfect for Halloween or anytime you want to rock a little vintage flair.
Fancy’s character was iconic for her confidence, charm, and impeccable sense of style. Plus, she was into fashion design, so I feel like her character resonates with me even more. Ready to channel that effortlessly classy 90s style? Let’s dive into the steps for this diy costume.

Step 1: Thrift the Blazer and Skirt
I thrifted the perfect thrifted pieces and scored a vintage Sears blazer for just $2.99! I couldn’t believe it! I also found a skirt that surprisingly matched the blazer in color, so it felt like a perfect fit for Fancy’s signature coordinated look. Skirt lengths can vary, but since Fancy rocked a tailored style, opt for a skirt that you can adjust to your preferred length.
Step 2: Alter the Fit
For a tailored “Fancy” finish, I made a few alterations to the blazer and skirt:
Hem the Skirt: I hemmed the skirt to give it a flirty length, perfect for a Halloween night out.
Take in the Waist: Fancy’s style was all about fitted silhouettes, so I took in the waist of the blazer just a bit for a more tailored fit. If you have basic sewing skills, taking in the waist is an easy way to elevate the look.
After making these adjustments, I headed to my sewing machine to finish off the new seams and ensure a clean, polished look.
Step 3: Add the "Fancy" Name Tag
One of the most fun parts of this costume is the personalized “Fancy” name tag, adding a fun touch that truly completes the look (and makes it easier to recognize!). I used my Cricut Joy Xtra to create a custom name tag sticker.
Here's my Cricut project template to make your own Fancy name tag easily!
Step 4: Complete the DIY Costume with 90s Accessories
No 90s look is complete without the right accessories. Fancy’s style was simple yet elegant, so I finished off the outfit with these final touches:
90s Jewelry: Choose a pair of small hoop earrings or a simple chain necklace for subtle glam.
Shoes: Matching blue or black pumps will perfectly match the classy vibe of the look. I actually thrifted mine for just $6!
Hair and Makeup: Go for a natural glam look with that hair bumped 90s style.
And That's the Final Look!
I absolutely love how this costume turned out. It’s classy, unique, and has that 90s-fine vibe that I love! Hopefully, I did Garcelle Beauvais and her character Fancy justice with this upcycled tribute. This costume was quick, affordable, and sustainable—all thanks to thrifting and a few easy DIY steps. Whether you’re into classic 90s style or just looking for a unique Halloween costume idea, recreating a Fancy look is sure to stand out.
